[amerikanisch, 'rɪȖʃaʊt], religiöses Tanzritual der Afroamerikaner, das auf einen Saut genannten westafrikanischen Kulttanz zurückgeht; daher auch die Bezeichnung, die mit dem englischen shout (= »Ruf, Geschrei«) nichts zu tun hat.
 
Die Ring-Shouts gehören zu jenen Formen der afroamerikanischen Kultur, in denen sich der Bezug auf die afrikanischen Ursprünge am unmittelbarsten erhalten hat. Es handelt sich dabei um einen Rundtanz, der sich, begleitet von Händeklatschen und Fußstampfen, im monotonen Wechsel von Vorsänger und den chorisch antwortenden Tänzern (Call and Response) zu allmählicher Ekstase steigert, um schließlich in einen Trancezustand hineinzuführen, in dem der Tänzer im völligen Außersichsein zu einer psychischen Läuterung findet.
